About
Cardboard City - Our goal is to find 200 people to spend a night in a temporary dwelling—a cardboard box.
Why
To raise awareness of homelessness and raise money for organizations that support the homeless and impoverished here in the Matanuska- Susitna Valley of Alaska.
Date
Fri., July 23, 5pm - July 24, 8am
Address
Alaska State Fairgrounds. Green Entrance, (south side, off the Glenn Highway, near train station)
How
Become a “resident” of the city by collecting pledges and spending one night in a cardboard box. Invite your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to participate. Children are welcome if accompanied by their parent/guardian. Children under 10 years of age may sleep in their parent/guardian’s box. Youth groups require a minimum one adult to 5 youth ratio.
Bring
Your dwelling and duct tape. (If you need a box, please indicate it on your registration form.) You may bring a sleeping bag, pillow, quiet games.
Do not bring
Valuables, electronics, pets, alcohol, weapons, or food. All food brought in will be confiscated and considered a donation to the local food pantry. Boxes may be decorated however you choose as long as they are not offensive, demeaning, or inappropriate.
